      • By Bus: From Kandy bus station, take a bus to Gampola (INR 30) , get down at Ambulwawa or ask the driver to drop near the tower area (about 1-hour ride) from the entry gate take a tuk-tuk to the tower (INR 300)

📍 Day 8: Yala National Park Safari & Surroundings

    • Arrange a private car or taxi for convenience or take a local bus from Ella bus Stop

  • Yala National Park Safari (Block 1 or 5)
    • Safari timings: Usually 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM or 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
    • Book your jeep safari in advance through a trusted operator or via your hotel.
    • Duration: About 3-4 hours.

      • Leopards (Yala is famous for its highest leopard density).

    • About 45 minutes drive (around 25 km).
  • Snorkeling or Diving at Hikkaduwa Coral Sanctuary
    • Book a snorkeling or diving trip to explore the vibrant coral reefs and tropical fish.
    • Equipment rentals and guided tours available locally.
    • Ideal for underwater photography and marine life enthusiasts.

Late Morning:

  • Visit Hikkaduwa Beach

  • Tuk-tuks are the best local transport; negotiate fares beforehand.
  • If you prefer a quieter evening, Ahangama is more laid-back compared to Hikkaduwa’s party scene.

Day 12: Galle – Explore the Dutch Fort & Coastal Charm

Morning:

  • Travel from Hikkaduwa/Ahangama to Galle
    • About 45 minutes to 1 hour by car or train (approx 30-35 km).
  • Start your day at the Galle Dutch Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
    • Walk along the well-preserved ramparts and walls that overlook the Indian Ocean.
    • Explore the old cannons, lighthouse, and sea views.
    • Visit the Galle Fort Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in Sri Lanka.

Late Morning:

  • Wander through the Fort’s cobbled streets
    • Explore boutique shops, art galleries, and cafes housed in colonial-era buildings.
    • Don’t miss Laksala (state-run handicraft shop) for authentic souvenirs.
    • Check out Amangalla Hotel and its historic charm.

Afternoon:

  • Visit the Old Dutch Church (Groote Kerk)
    • One of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka with beautiful stained glass windows.
  • Relax at Unawatuna Beach (just 10 minutes from Galle Fort)
    • Great for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports.

  • Alternatively, visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda
    • Located on a hill overlooking Galle and the ocean.
    • A serene spot with panoramic views, perfect for sunset.

Evening:

  • Dinner inside Galle Fort or nearby beachside

The atmosphere is magical with the fort lit up and the sound of waves crashing nearby.

Tips for Galle

  • Wear comfortable shoes — you’ll do a lot of walking on cobblestone streets.
  • Carry some cash; some small shops and cafes may not accept cards.
  • If you want a relaxed day, consider a spa session at one of the boutique hotels inside the fort.
  • Galle is great for photography — keep your camera ready!
